This guy issued a challenge to the internet - to read all of Ishmael (a few pages at a time) and post it onto youtube. He started out with the first pages and each person has posted the next few pages as a "reply" to the previous video. They've gotten up to p. 148 (how long is the book?).
The challenge is here:

And what story is Quinn enacting ? That of Guru of tribalism ?
Ever wonder why he seems to like having a following of adulating fans ?
Ever wonder why he twists anthropological data out of any semblance with reality ?
Ever wonder why he has nothing practicable to recommend, except for vaguely advocating that we let others starve in far off lands ?
Did you ever consider how many billions will have to die in order for the few remaining millions to subsist as neo-tribalists ?
But I forgot, murder is one those false "sins" of the crappy ten commandments.

Book changed life, pointed the way

When he was just out of high school, Adam Hintz read a book called “Ishmael” by Omaha-born author Daniel Quinn.
It’s a novel about a gorilla who has profound observations about evolution and the future of humanity.

You are not Goliath, You are Ishmael.
Submitted by Adam Hintz on Mon, 2007-07-30 16:59. Ishmael | Chit ChatI was thinkng about the way Walter Sokolow gave Ishmael a new sence of self by telling him his name was not Goliath but Ishmael. I think it's annalogous to our need to see the minds we are changing as not stereotypes of a destructive Take culture, but lost individuals of a lost society. Any thoughts?
