Hey all,

A group of filmmakers are working on a documentary titled: No One Right Way. They’re looking for readers of Ishmael to submit their stories about how the book changed their lives.

Ishmael YouTube Read-athon Challenge

| | | | | |

I found this information on the Ishmael Austin yahoogroup. It was posted by their group member Benjamin. How cool is this?

********

This guy issued a challenge to the internet - to read all of Ishmael (a few pages at a time) and post it onto youtube. He started out with the first pages and each person has posted the next few pages as a "reply" to the previous video. They've gotten up to p. 148 (how long is the book?).

The challenge is here:

The playlist of all the existing videos can be found here:

And what story is Quinn enacting ? That of Guru of tribalism ?

Ever wonder why he seems to like having a following of adulating fans ?

Ever wonder why he twists anthropological data out of any semblance with reality ?

Ever wonder why he has nothing practicable to recommend, except for vaguely advocating that we let others starve in far off lands ?

Did you ever consider how many billions will have to die in order for the few remaining millions to subsist as neo-tribalists ?

But I forgot, murder is one those false "sins" of the crappy ten commandments.

Book changed life, pointed the way

When he was just out of high school, Adam Hintz read a book called “Ishmael” by Omaha-born author Daniel Quinn.

It’s a novel about a gorilla who has profound observations about  evolution  and the future of humanity.

You are not Goliath, You are Ishmael.

I was thinkng about the way Walter Sokolow gave Ishmael a new sence of self by telling him his name was not Goliath but Ishmael. I think it's annalogous to our need to see the minds we are changing as not stereotypes of a destructive Take culture, but lost individuals of a lost society. Any thoughts?
