By Derrick Jensen
WOULD ANY SANE PERSON think dumpster diving would have stopped Hitler, or that composting would have ended slavery or brought about the eight-hour workday, or that chopping wood and carrying water would have gotten people out of Tsarist prisons, or that dancing naked around a fire would have helped put in place the Voting Rights Act of 1957 or the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Then why now, with all the world at stake, do so many people retreat into these entirely personal “solutions”?

Derrick Jensen on WOJB
Submitted by Huby7 on Wed, 2009-07-01 16:18. Derrick Jensen | Orion | WOJB | Reserve | WisconsinI'm excited. I recently found out that Derrick Jensen will be a guest on our local radio station. I've been waiting awhile. I first suggested they have him on about five years ago now. I'm glad there were others that did the same, usually it takes more than one person's suggestion (like the show host's good friend) to make something like this happen.

I know that most of you would agree with what Derrick is saying here, but I thought some of you might be interested because he is picking apart some of Dawkin's logic. The excerpt is out of Derrick's new book What We Leave Behind.

I don't know how many of you participate over at the Derrick Jensen Discussion Forum, so I thought I would post this excerpt about technology and magic out of his soon to be published book WHAT WE LEAVE BEHIND. I think it is useful, especially if you have read THE HOLY, by Daniel Quinn.
