rallies and petitions ( even better e-petitions with no paper),,,

YAY ! ralies and petitions show 'Responsibility'  ! YAY !

(your picking up 'other peoples' litter that you see laying around and not leaving it behind,  which if you saw the litter there but did nothing, its just as bad as leaving it there yourself !.)

 Hawiians have a word for this  'Kuleana'  { responsibility/privilege}

The way I see it, the typical function of petitions are to sway the minds of elected officals. It's an expression of public opinion. And changing public opinion to me is synonomous with changing minds.

Maybe instead of using a petition to tell public officials what the public thinks, I could be used as an opportunity to begin a dialouge with members of you community. Stand infront of your local food co-op or farmers market with a clipboard and petition paper. When someone asks what the petition's for say something like "this is a petition to eliminate the predominance of heirarchy in our social system." Maybe you'd get a puzzeled look. Then you can open up the whole can of worm to them.
