a taking circle with tim and sally

| | | |

this might be brief,

last night myself and sixty or more squeezed into a room not large enough for us all to watch WHAT A WAY TO GO: LIFE AT THE END OF EMPIRE.

there is a coherent stream of conscious narrative holding all the sound bites and blurbs together as it weaves it's way through four parts ... it felt long, exhausting, as the material is heavy, and an unfliching look in to the face of the impending collaspe is painful even if you're well aware of it's constituent characters and players eating away the foundation of empire.
the movie ended, the credits rolled and the silence washed over us like a hot, uncomfortable wind. followed by thundering applause...?! tim and sally then offered their time to talk in a circle with a talking stick. they first said, "this movie brings us into a space of emotion and feeling... just stay there and recall a feeling from the movie and what it brought up for you and turn to a nieghbor and tell them about it." so we did, the room buzzed for several minuets with people sharing anger, despair, fear, happiness, hope, estatic aniexity,.,.,.,.... then we passed the stick around and said our peace (piece).

afterword after everyone had left and two close friends and i along with tim, sally and their hosts were left i thank them for what they did.

i said, "i don't want to thank you just for this film but what you did afterward. not playing the part of the expert or authority by answering questions from us while we sit in straight rows looking at the backs of one anothers heads."

sally, "we try to go beyond hiearchy. we tried doing q&a in the beginning it just was not satisfying. this movie brings up so many emotions and we are concerned with helping people sit with that."

this movie is certainly for those who have not read quinn's work, but it is a beautiful example of someone who has taken the message and made it their own, i was happy to show my support and help spread the word.

there was a nice turn out of ishmael peeps, some i hadn't seen in a while. made some interesting contacts as well.

awakening the dreamer

this was something mentioned last night in the talking circle

http://www.awakeningthedreamer.com/

    Indigenous People of South America

  • Indigenous people of South America, who still live in their traditional Earth-honoring ways, refer to our modern worldview as our "dream" and have urged us, for the sake of all life, to "change the dream of the North."
  • We provide classes, workshops and seminars designed to engage and awaken the participants from the dream of the industrialized North and focus on what will make a difference for our families, ourselves and all life--now and for future generations.
  • We can awaken from the dream and impact the direction of our world with our everyday choices and action.

Soon

Thanks C, enjoyed hearing about your experience. Would love to talk about it more over voice-chat sometime. We'll be hosting Sally & Tim at Duma for a potluck before going over to the movie a week from Sunday here in Eugene. We've offered to set them up overnight in the cob hut at Maitreya Ecovillage. We'll see if they take it or our second option (a cozy apartment).

I was curious how the 'after' part was going to go post-film. So, there wasn't any kind of Q&A?

Care,
Aaron

no GD q&a!

i imagine they are probably the most enlightened people on earth ... jk. their personal perference was not to do q&a because it didn't seem to accomplish much and holds in place a hierarchal relationship that they would like to do away with. they recognized that after viewing this movie most people were deeply moved in one manner or other, as we have seen as well (the strong like dislike, etc for WWTG). admittedly i was really thankful for once to see more of a chance for dialogue rather than just being talked 'at' by the experts. not to mention seeing our own reactions to this film diffused the whole, "hey, uhh, i didn't like it when the part where the stuff was blowin' up an, an ,a nd,..." instead we got, how do you feel, about this?

don't let this be the only impression, they still wake up in the morning and take a dump like the rest of us... and if you having dinner or hanging out with them, i am certain they will talk with ya. they were both incredibly sincere and very amiable, and humerous. have fun!
